Big Data China, a newly launched trade journal by China-Cloud.com, publishes an article by Jonathan Zhu in its inauguration issue on April 8. The article, entitled “Big data from the eyes of a social science professor: abundant, fast, lousy, and costly”, was based on a speech by Jonathan on big data in late December 2012. In the article, he characterized the popular 4V (volume, velocity, variety, value) definition of big data as abundant in quantity, fast in storage speed, lousy in quality, and costly in operation.
